Emergency Blood Drive In Hoboken After ‘Polar Vortex’
There will be a blood drive in Hoboken on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Supplies are "critical" after the recent polar vortex, organizers said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The New Jersey Blood Services A Division of New York Blood Center issued an “emergency appeal for blood donors” earlier this week. There will be a blood drive in Hoboken on Wednesday, Feb. 27.
According to a Feb. 10 news release:
“There is a national call for blood donors due to the impact of the polar vortex. This morning, our inventory is even lower vs. last week with types O-, B- and A- all at critical levels and our overall inventory at a 3 to 4 day supply. While we did get some media support promoting our emergency, blood donations have not sufficiently rallied to make up for the shortfall. We still need help! It is only through increased blood donations at all upcoming blood drives and donor centers that we might rebound.”
To this end, the Hoboken Police Department is spearheading a blood drive on Feb. 27 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the bloodmobile, which will be near the John Wiley Building at 111 River Street. Walk-ins are welcome, and snacks will be available for donors.
