Emergency Responders Pull Man from Hudson River in Hoboken

23-year-old was allegedly intoxicated, found clinging to Pier C support beam.

Emergency responders rescued an allegedly intoxicated, 23-year-old man from the Hudson River on Saturday morning, pulling the Las Vegas resident from the waters after he jumped off Pier C Park.

According to a NJ.com report, police arrived at the pier around 1:31 a.m., after receiving 911 calls that a man had jumped into the river.

That’s where rescue workers from the New York Police Department Harbor Patrol and the Hoboken Fire Department discovered Gabriel Osorio clinging onto a support beam.

“Osorio’s friend reportedly told officers Osorio was highly intoxicated when he jumped off the pier.”

Osorio reportedly told police that he was looking to cool down, and thought that he would be able to climb back up to safety.

The Hoboken municipal website states that Pier C Park, located on Sinatra Drive near 4th Street, is a popular location for fishing and water play.

The waters around Pier C can be deadly. In April of 2014, two Newark men drowned in the same area. [See related Patch article]
