Fire Put Out On Lower Washington Street In Hoboken; Road Reopens
A fire was put out at a corner business in Hoboken on Friday.
HOBOKEN, NJ — A fire at 401-403 Washington St. in Hoboken was extinguished before 12:30 p.m. Friday, and lower Washington Street has reopened, officials said.
There were no injuries, said Public Safety Director Kenneth Ferrante.
"The fire started in the basement," Ferrante said Friday afternoon. "There is nothing suspicious about this fire at this time, and Fire Marshall Capt. Steven DiVincent and his staff will do the investigation to identify the cause of origin for this fire."

The city of Hoboken had asked residents to avoid Washington Street from Third through Fifth Street Friday around 8:30 a.m. as fire trucks sped to an "active fire."
Around 12:30, the city said, "The Hoboken Fire Department extinguished the fire at 401-403 Washington St. The Office of Emergency Management has reopened Washington Street between Third Street and Fifth Street. Buses will no longer operate on alternate routes. "

The Fire Department was still responding to BCB Bank in the afternoon, and windows and doors to the building and the neighboring building were open.

"Thanks to the men & women of @HobokenFire Dept for the fast work in knocking down this morning's fire at 4th & Washington St.," wrote Ferrante on social media. "Chief Peskens reports no injuries to any civilians or first responders at this time. He credits his team under BCs Turner & Carter for the terrific work."
