Flood Statement For Monday Morning, Snow Later: Forecast

The NWS has issued a flood statement for Hudson County Monday morning and a prediction for rain, sleet, and snow this week. See when.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a flood statement for Hudson County for 7-11 a.m. on Monday morning, around high tide.

The NWS only expects "minor flooding," but the tides on Monday — 9:32 a.m. high tide in the Hudson River and 10:05 a.m. for the Hackensack River Monday — will be the highest tides this week.

The NWS expected sleet and rain Sunday night as well as Monday, with little accumulation. They do predict some snow Wednesday as well, with an accumulation of less than half an inch.

On Dec. 23, when Hoboken terminal flooded during high tide, the predictions were for more: at least a food of inundation.

A "flood statement" is, according to the federal government, a "bulletin issued to provide updated information about flooding along main stem rivers, or important creeks."

The coastal flood statement for Hudson County says: "Up to one half foot of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. Some roads and
low lying properties including parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding."

They advise: Do not drive through flooded roadways.
