HOBOKEN, NJ — A group of New York City cafés with unique coffee and dessert items will open its first location in Hoboken, a spokesperson confirmed Thursday.

Oasis, a café with eight locations in New York City — including a new one to open in Chelsea this Friday — will occupy the former Roost Outpost coffee spot on First Street.

Oasis opened its first café in the city 40 years ago.

The Roost closed in March after its owner said the rent increase proposed by the landlords was too high.

They wrote, "Our café was not able to secure a lease extension for our location at 55 First St. ... As members of the Hoboken community that love this town dearly, we want to express our deepest thanks and appreciation to each and every one of you."

The spot is undergoing renovations as Oasis plans its jump across the river.

Dennis Amvrosiatos, the owner of Oasis Café, told Patch on Thursday, "We’re really excited to bring Oasis to Hoboken, especially as our first location outside of New York."

Hoboken has dozens of cafés and coffee shops, something Amvrosiatos acknowledged.

"Hoboken has coffee shops, but what it doesn’t have is an Oasis," he said. "We really believe there’s nothing quite like what we offer. Anyone can open a coffee shop. Building a place that people connect with, come back to, and make part of their lives is a different story. That's what we've been doing since 1986, and that's what we're bringing to Hoboken."

Oasis offers an array of desserts and in beverages such as a banana bread matcha.

The spot at 55 First St. in Hoboken — a walk of a few blocks from the train terminal — has been home to a number of small businesses for years, including a barber shop and a newspaper.

The former occupants, the Roost, closed in March after 10 years on First Street.
