Biden Administration Treasury Job Goes To Former Hoboken Council Candidate Ajmani
Dini Ajmani dropped out of the November race the Hoboken City Council days after entering, leading some to ask why. Now, a possible answer.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Those who were wondering why Hoboken resident Dini Ajmani dropped out of the November race the Hoboken City Council — just a few days after Mayor Ravi Bhalla had announced she was on his ticket — may have their answer.
The New Jersey Treasury Department announced Monday that Ajmani, the assistant state treasurer under Gov. Phil Murphy, departed from that role on Friday in order to take on a position in the U.S. Treasury as deputy assistant secretary for capital markets, in the Biden administration.
“Since 2018, Dini Ajmani has been a great asset to the Murphy administration,” said State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio in a press release Monday. “Her strong understanding of the financial markets and macroeconomic issues have proved invaluable...”

Ajmani had assumed the role of assistant state treasurer in January of 2018. She was responsible for pension and health benefits for the state's public employees, the NJ Lottery, and the managing of the state's public debt.
She also had been a policy advisor to Murphy's campaign. Before that, she had worked in financial services at Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan, and elsewhere.

She also has served on the Hoboken Planning Board and the board of New Jersey Transit.
After she left the Bhalla ticket this summer, two-term councilman Jim Doyle agreed to run again after saying he would not run for a third term. READ MORE: Who's Running For Hoboken Council?
The Bhalla slate includes three candidates in the November City Council race for three seats, and there are seven other candidates also running for the slots.
