Hoboken Halloween: Updated Ragamuffin Parade And Trick-or-Treat Details For 2021

HOBOKEN, NJ — After a hiatus for the pandemic, it's back! Hoboken's traditional Ragamuffin Parade takes place at 11 a.m. today (Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021). Interested kids and adults can line up between 10:15 a.m. and 11 a.m. at 13th and Washington streets and prepare to march south to 5th Street. There will be no costume contest this year.
Quoth the city:
Calling all ghouls and ghosts! The annual Ragamuffin Parade begins at 11 a.m. on 13th and Washington Streets. Washington Street will be closed during the parade and buses will follow a detour. https://t.co/AAULS71JVf

In years when Halloween's on a school day, the parade is often held in afternoon, and trick-or-treating proceeds afterward at area stores and homes through dusk. A city spokesperson said Thursday that the city does not set hours for trick-or-treating on Halloween. She also said that rumors of certain streets being closed off aren't true — but it may happen if there's a crowd.
- Uptown residents are suggesting hours of 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. for trick-or-treating there, as the heavily decorated homes in that part of town draw crowds.

- A Halloween-themed "Immersive balloon experience" is taking place at Play! Hoboken and has been extended through Halloween day.
- “We ask that everyone have a good time, but do so in a responsible and respectful manner,” said Hoboken Police Chief Daniel LoBue. HPD reminds drivers to reduce their speed, be alert for trick-or-treaters who may come out from between parked cars, turn on their headlights, and stop before crosswalks to allow pedestrians to cross safely.Any and all complaints should be made to the HPD dispatch center at 201-420-2100.
