With more than 300 reported crashes between 2013 and 2015 - including a pedestrian fatality – the street is due for a safety overhaul, according to city administrators.
The six-foot bike lanes were part of a package of initiatives proposed by the T&M Design Group during Monday’s meeting, and would ultimately eliminate double parking, a common practice for local shoppers, the Hudson County View reported.

According to a rendering of the proposed road configuration, the redesign would include:
- Protected bicycle lanes that would take bikes “off the sidewalks”
- The addition of loading zones, short-term parking spaces and other policy changes that would “address double parking by delivery vehicles and those running quick errands”
The proposed configuration can be seen online here.
