Hoboken Born Barbers Open Their First Shop
The Coto Brothers operate Trim at 303 First Street.
Two brothers born and raised in Hoboken have just gone from cutting hair in other people's places to owning their own shop. Trim, located at 303 First Street, opened on February 1.
Co-owner Leo Coto said his brother Dairen has been cutting hair for over fifteen years, and that five years ago he also picked up the trade. The brothers worked at barbershops in Hoboken and in Union City for several years, though they had long wanted to open their own shop.
“We've been looking in Hoboken forever,” Leo Coto said. He said that he and his brother were particularly happy to open downtown along the busy First Street thoroughfare.

“Besides Washington Street this is where there's the most traffic,” he said.
Besides passerby and new customers, Leo Coto said that many of Trim's clients are longtime friends and neighbors from Hoboken.

“We cut everybody's hair in Hoboken,” Coto said. He added that many members of the Hoboken police and fire departments have already visited the new shop.
In addition to the Coto brothers Trim employs another male barber and a woman who cuts hair for both men and women, as well as a manager for the front desk.
The barbershop has a modern décor with hardwood floors, exposed brick, black chairs and flat screen televisions mounted on the wall.
Prices at Trim run $20 for regular haircuts, $25 for haircuts with hot towel shaves, and touch-ups for $10. The barbershop also sells American Crew and Redken shampoos and styling products.
The barbershop services walk-in customers and also books reservations. For more information visit the Trim website.
Coming soon: a pediatric clinic opens on Washington Street, and midtown residents can soon Go Postal.
