Hoboken Charter School Named ‘Promising Practice’ Awardee

Awardees were located across the United States, as well as from Canada, China, India, Mexico, and New Zealand.

Hoboken, NJ – The Character Education Partnership (CEP) has recognized Hoboken Charter School in Hoboken, NJ as a 2016 Promising Practice awardee for its Senior E.Y.E.S Project.

CEP is awarding 327 Promising Practice awards to schools, districts, and youth-serving organizations from across the United States, as well as from Canada, China, India, Mexico, and New Zealand, a school news release stated.

This year’s winning practices include unique anti-bullying programs, creative ways to integrate character and academic subjects, effective strategies for developing student leadership, and activities that build community within the school and beyond.

According to Hoboken Charter School upper school art teacher and service learning coordinator Mira Septimus, the Senior E.Y.E.S. Project” (Empowering Your Educational Services) - is a three-part process which consists of a research project, a service learning experience and a cumulative presentation that students begin their senior year of high school.

“Our Senior E.Y.E.S Project continues to have a positive impact on our students, our school and the community,” Executive Director Deirdra Grode stated. “Through these student-led programs, our school now has an database of community, national and international partners including the Hoboken Library, the Hoboken University Hospital, Women Rising, The Liberty Humane Society, The Society for Prevention of Teen Suicide, The York Street Project, NJ Clean Communities, Hopes Cap Inc., Hudson Pride, Amped for Education and AIDS Walk NY.”
