Hoboken City Hall Joins 90 Historic Landmarks For Cancer Fundraising Telecast

Hoboken City Hall will join landmarks including Niagara Falls, Tribune Tower, The Capital Wheel and Ben Franklin Bridge.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken City Hall will be lit up from Sept. 5 to 9 in solidarity with more than 90 historic buildings and landmarks across the United States and Canada as part of Stand Up To Cancer’s fifth biennial “roadblock” telecast effort.

According to a news release from event organizers, other participating landmarks include Niagara Falls and The Peace Bridge connecting Buffalo and Fort Erie, Ontario, the Helmsley Building in New York, Willis Tower, The Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower, NBC Tower and Navy Pier in Chicago, The Capital Wheel outside Washington DC, the US Bank Tower crown in Los Angeles, Pacific Ferris Wheel on the Santa Monica Pier and The Clock Tower in Santa Monica, and One Liberty Place, the Benjamin Franklin Bridge, Cira Centre and FMC Tower in Philadelphia.

All buildings – including Hoboken City Hall - will be lit in a combination of SU2C’s signature colors: red, orange, yellow or white.

The telecast – which raises funds and awareness for cancer research – will air in both countries on Friday, Sept. 9, from 8 to 9 p.m. (EST).

In 2014, the commercial-free telecast raised more than $109 million, organizers said. Since its founding in 2008, more than $370 million has been pledged to support Stand Up To Cancer, which claims to have funded more than 1,100 researchers across 131 institutions and initiated, launched or completed over 160 clinical trials benefitting more than 8,000 patients.

“We are grateful and honored that these iconic U.S. and Canadian buildings and landmarks are standing with us in the fight against cancer,” said Lisa Paulsen, Stand Up To Cancer co-founder and president and CEO of the Entertainment Industry Foundation. “Illumination of these famous landmarks in conjunction with our telecast shines a spotlight on the importance of cancer research.”

According to organizers, the telecast will broadcast live from The Music Center’s Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. In addition, ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC, along with American Forces Network, ASPiRE, AUDIENCE Network, Bloomberg TV, Bravo, Comedy Central, Discovery Life, E! Entertainment, EPIX, ESPNEWS, FM, FS2, Fusion, FXM, Great American Country, HBO, HLN, ION Television, LMN, Logo, MLB Network, National Geographic, Pivot, RLTV, SHOWTIME, Smithsonian Channel, STARZ, STARZ ENCORE, TBS, Tr3s, VH1 and WGN America are donating one hour of simultaneous commercial-free primetime for the telecast.

For the first time, there will be a Spanish version of the Stand Up To Cancer telecast airing nationally on Galavision, HBO Latino, STARZ ENCORE ESPAÑOL and Univision Deportes, and locally on Univision Puerto Rico, organizers stated.

In addition, the show will stream live on SU2C’s Facebook page, Yahoo, SU2C’s YouTube page, MLB.com and in Spanish on Univision.com. USA Network will air the Stand Up To Cancer telecast on Friday, Sept. 9 at 11:00 PM- 12:00 AM ET/PT / 10:00 PM CT. The entire telecast will also become available to stream on Hulu beginning Saturday, Sept. 10.
