Hoboken Council Approves $108.4 Million City Budget
No municipal tax increase for homeowners; School and County taxes may still increase.

Good news, Hoboken homeowners… your municipal taxes will stay the same for the coming fiscal year.
During their May 20 public meeting, the Hoboken City Council approved a $108.4 million municipal budget for 2015.
The budget contains no tax increases for local property owners, according to city officials.

Local property owners will still see a $67 tax increase as part of next year’s school budget. [See related Patch article]
Homeowners may also face a potential 11 percent increase to the Hudson County tax levy, according to a report.

Council members approved the budget by a vote of 8 to 1, with Councilwoman Beth Mason dissenting.
EXPENSES
Appropriations in the 2015 budget include:
- Insurance (General Liability, Worker’s Compensation, Employee Group Health) - $21.22 million
- Police Department salaries and wages - $16.51 million
- Fire Department salaries and wages - $13.11 million
- Municipal Court - $1.09 million
- Mayor and City Council salary and wages - $553,781
- Street Lighting - $730,000
- Electricity - $435,000
- Gasoline - $350,000
- Postage - $150,000
