Hoboken High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team Loses To Kearny High
Hoboken High School's Lady Redwings were unable to come back after Kearny took the lead.

The advantage of playing at home wasn't enough to bring victory to Hoboken High School's Lady Redwings. They lost 62-46 to the Kearny Kardinals Friday night.
A relentless Kearny full-court press that began in the first quarter and continued throughout the game, proved to be the team's best offense. The Kardinals' man-to-man defense caused many Redwing turnovers, which made it difficult for Hoboken to close the scoring gap.
Kearny took an early lead and and was up 16-8 going into the second quarter. The Redwings were able to bring the Kardinals' lead down to 7 points by halftime after a short but fruitful scoring run. It was not fruitful enough to catch up.
In the second half, the Kearny offense really lit up the scoreboard, led by sophomore Angel Conde. Conde scored nine of her 21 points in the third quarter. After being fouled on a 3 point attempt, she sunk three free throws.
The Redwings never let up, but the Kearny full court press continued to give them problems, forcing turnover after turnover. Hoboken began their own full-court press in the 4th quarter, but this defensive effort came too late.
Hoboken Coach Ryan Sorafine expressed hope for the future of his team and its season.
"The kids played up until the last minute, " said Sorafine. "They are getting better day by day and the wins will come."
Hoboken is now 1-5. Ashley Torres led Hoboken scoring with 13 points.
Kearny's high scorers were Conde with 21 points and Stefanie Gomes with 19. They are 5-3.
