Hoboken High School Students Dress Down And Raise Funds For Derek Jeter's Foundation

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken High School student government hosted a schoolwide dressdown day on 2-2-22, raising $400 for baseball star Derek Jeter’s Turn 2 Foundation.

Number 2 was Jeter’s jersey number when he was an active player for the New York Yankees. In 1996, during his rookie season with the Yanks, Jeter and his father, Dr. Charles Jeter, created the Turn 2 Foundation to motivate young people to turn away from drugs and alcohol and "Turn 2" healthy lifestyles.

When the Foundation was born, Jeter drew inspiration from his father's experience as a drug and alcohol abuse counselor whose work had helped people overcome substance abuse.

Jeter recognized that motivating young people to rise above negative influences was key to helping them reach their full potential.

The Turn 2 Foundation continues to build upon that legacy by helping young people in New York, West Michigan and Tampa, Florida. The Foundation's initiatives are designed to foster leadership development, academic excellence, positive behavior and social change.

In its 25-year history, Turn 2 has given back more than $30 million, funding its signature programs as well as organizations that support its mission.

The Hoboken Student Government was ecstatic to donate money to the Turn 2 Foundation through the schoolwide dressdown.

The Hoboken HS Student Government had support from the entire Redwing Community and the Redwings Care Coalition, the district said.
