Hoboken Man Arrested For Creating Drunken Ruckus Outside CVS

A homeless man in a wheelchair may have been struck in the commotion, police say.

Hoboken police arrested a 45-year-old local man for creating an intoxicated ruckus outside CVS pharmacy on Washington Street on Sunday.

According to police, several pedestrians flagged down Officer David Olivera around 1:11 p.m., pointing him towards a homeless man sitting in a wheelchair, who was bleeding from the nose.

When Olivera asked the man who hit him, the victim pointed to a male who was walking away from the scene, later identified as Chat V. Tran.

While speaking with Tran, Olivera observed him remove a plastic bottle and toss it to the ground. When he asked Tran to pick it up, he allegedly refused.

Olivera stated that he issued Tran a summons for littering and the two continued to speak. As the conversation continued, Olivera noticed that Tran smelled like alcohol, his eyes were bloodshot and his speech was slurred.

Olivera then issued him a second summons for public intoxication and advised him to leave the area.

Tran allegedly refused and began to yell profanities and toss his arms around in the middle of the crowded sidewalk, at which point he was arrested for disorderly conduct.

He was subsequently released on a summons.

The victim was transported to the hospital for his injuries and didn’t pursue a complaint against Tran, police stated.
