Hoboken Man Dies After Assault In Jersey City: Prosecutor
Jersey City police found a 38-year-old Hoboken man "unresponsive" after an assault. He passed away the next day, authorities said.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Hoboken man passed away after being injured in an assault in Jersey City last weekend, authorities announced Tuesday.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Jersey City police were dispatched to the area of 1st Street and Marin Boulevard around 3 a.m. on Saturday after receiving a report of an alleged “street fight.”
On arrival, the officers found an “unresponsive” man with apparent facial wounds lying on the ground. The man, later identified as Luis Rivera, 38, of Hoboken, was treated at the scene by Emergency Medical Services before being transported to the Jersey City Medical Center.

Rivera was pronounced dead at 4:10 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 21. The cause and manner of death are pending determination by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office, prosecutors said.
On Oct. 21, authorities issued a warrant for the arrest of Joshua Espada, 29, of Jersey City. Espada was charged with aggravated assault in violation of N.J.S. 2C:12-1b(1), a second-degree crime.

On Tuesday at 6:30 a.m., Espada was arrested “without incident” by members of the Jersey City Police Department on Academy Street in Jersey City, prosecutors said.
Police transported Espada to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City for processing. He was later taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending a court appearance.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are conducting an active investigation into the case.
