Hoboken Man Struggles With Cops During Drug Arrest: Police
A Hoboken man is facing a host of charges after an incident on Jackson Street, including aggravated assault on a police officer.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A Hoboken man is facing numerous charges – including aggravated assault on a police officer – after he tried to flee from pursing cops and caused a disturbance at an apartment complex on Jackson Street earlier this week, authorities said.
According to the Hoboken Police Department, the incident took place when a pair of officers were conducting a quality of life check at 320 Jackson Street at 5:05 p.m. on Wednesday, May 29.
In a stairwell in the building, the officers encountered Darnell Gleason, 36, of Hoboken, who allegedly tried to hide an object in his pants when he saw them arrive. Gleason then took off running, ignoring officers’ commands to stop, authorities said.

When one cop caught up with and grabbed Gleason, he tried to twist free, swinging at and injuring the pursing officer in the process, authorities said.
Gleason continued to resist arrest, eventually making his way outside, where he reached into his pockets and began throwing the items into the courtyard. When a crowd started to form, Gleason grabbed a bag that officers suspected to contain a controlled substance and threw it to a nearby juvenile. The youth then ran away from the courtyard, police said.

After additional Hoboken police officers arrived on the scene, they were able to subdue Gleason and place him under arrest. Authorities later charged him with 10 total charges, including possession of a CDS with intent to distribute (within 1,000 feet of a school and 500 feet of public housing), employing a juvenile in a CDS distribution scheme, burglary with bodily injury, resisting arrest with force, hindering apprehension, aggravated assault on a police officer, endangering the welfare of a child and obstruction.
Gleason was remanded to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.
Hoboken police investigators later identified and located the 17-year-old juvenile that fled the scene. They were “processed accordingly” at police headquarters and released to their guardian, authorities said.
Hoboken police didn’t specify the type of CDS involved in an initial police statement.
