Hoboken Police Find Gun When They Break Up Gathering

A "large group" was gathered on a Hoboken street, listening to music. It ended with an officer drawing his gun.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Two men and a teenage boy were charged with weapons offenses late on Saturday after Hoboken police went to check out a large outdoor gathering and observed a gun on the floor of a car.

Police Chief Ken Ferrante shared preliminary details on Twitter on Sunday morning:

"At 11:30pm, Sgt. Luke Zeszotarski & Officers Aviles, Seickendick, & Straten went over to break up a large group at 5th and Jackson," he wrote, "hanging out and listening to loud music coming from a vehicle. Sgt. Zeszotarski was the first officer over to the car and observed the occupants acting nervous."

"While talking to the occupants and looking into the car, he observed a handgun on the rear floor. Zeszotarski drew his weapon on the vehicle and he & the 3 officers safely got the 3 individuals out of the vehicle without further incident and recovered a .32 caliber revolver that was defaced with spray paint over the serial number."

According to the chief, the three occupants were arrested: a 20-year-old and 16-year-old Hoboken resident, and a 19-year-old Jersey City resident. All were arrested and charged with weapons offenses.

"This was outstanding work by @HobokenPD," the chief noted. He said more details would be coming Monday.
