In Hoboken: Puppy Mill Survivor 'Baby Sherman' Dies

"Hopefully one day there will be an end to the cruel breeders and puppy mills that breed these little souls," rescue staff wrote.

HOBOKEN, NJ — After surviving a puppy mill and a pet store, Hoboken area French Bulldog puppy Baby Sherman has passed away.

Staff at the Hoboken-based SNORT Rescue had recently wrote that the puppy – who came directly from a puppy mill to a pet store to a foster home – was doing better after a litany of issues arising from a congenital upper respiratory defect and possible hydrocephalus.

However, on Wednesday, Sherman passed away, SNORT staff stated via Facebook.

“When you rescue, you accept that there will be losses,” staff wrote. “We know that no one can save them all. Unfortunately, knowing that doesn't make days like today any easier. Last night Baby Sherman lost his fight. He had been doing well. The swelling in his tongue and muzzle was almost back to normal. However the endo-tracheal tube/ventilator was completely clogged so they had to change it. As they were changing it his heart stopped twice and they were able to revive him twice. But the third time it stopped they were unable to revive him. He was just too weak to keep fighting.”

“Please keep his foster mom in your thoughts. She loved this little boy so much and gave him every fighting chance. She never stopped searching for a solution to his problems. Sherman was so lucky to be loved and cherished for the last month or so. This poor puppy came directly from a puppy mill to a pet store and then into Meghan's arms.”

SNORT staff encouraged the local community to keep fighting against puppy mills.

“Hopefully one day there will be an end to the cruel breeders and puppy mills that breed these little souls with no regard for their health or well-being,” staff wrote. “Thank you to all of you for your donations and prayers. Sherman, we tried. Run free little man. You were more loved then you'll ever know.”
