HOBOKEN, NJ —It may be obvious to those who live in Hoboken that they have a pretty sweet commute to Manhattan, with a direct view of the city skyline, $2.75 PATH rides that take 9 minutes to Greenwich Village, and bus and ferry options too. Now the real estate website PropertyShark has recognized it.

The website recently ranked Hoboken as number 20 on a list of the best places to live in New Jersey if you commute to Manhattan.

It should be higher, you say?

Well, several factors were taken into account. The list-makers noted: "Because commute time is not the only concern when it comes to location, we also broadened the scope and looked at the following attributes for each town: median home price, school rating according to GreatSchools.com and crime rate according to the FBI database."

They're clearly not local experts, as they claim that neighboring Union City — a more affordable (yet landlocked) town and 3 on the list — is in Union County.

North Bergen, which has a longer commute, ranks number nine, and they believe it's in Bergen County.

Well, maybe that will quell the surge of people moving here.

Jersey City, which also offers direct access to Manhattan, came in at number 19, and nearby Weehawken didn't crack the top 40.

The top 10 towns are, with their listed commute times:

  1. Hackensack, 65 minutes
  2. West New York, 41 minutes
  3. Union City, 39 minutes
  4. Rahway, 64 minutes
  5. Teaneck, 55 minutes
  6. Newark, 40 minutes
  7. Nutley, 66 minutes
  8. Bergenfield, 74 minutes
  9. North Bergen, 54 minutes
