Hoboken Restricts Some Blocks Thursdays, Weekends To Shop
The new "Summer Streets" program will mean restaurants and shops can set up tables twice a week in streets, for pedestrians only.
HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken Business Alliance announced in late July that the Hoboken "Summer Streets" program would kick off for Thursdays and weekends. Various blocks — near the train station, on Washington Street, and on 14th Street — will be closed to vehicles those days so that restaurants and stores can sell items in the street, in coordination with the Hoboken Police Department and the city's Department of Transportation.
- Slow Streets, designed to facilitate more public space for residents to safely jog, walk and bike, will take place around town Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. Watch the city website or Hoboken Patch for updates.
- Summer Streets, in partnership with the Hoboken Business Alliance, expands space into the street for socially distant dining and shopping, takes place Thursdays and weekends, including portions of Washington Street, Sinatra Drive, and 14th Street.

Slow Streets and Summer Streets will restrict vehicular traffic on designated streets, with traffic flow permitted on most cross streets. Local deliveries and access to vehicles are permitted along Slow Streets. Vehicles may remain parked on the Slow Streets route, while temporary no parking signs will be posted along the Summer Streets.
Gregory Dell’Aquila, President of Hoboken Business Alliance, said, “We received positive feedback from the businesses who participated in our pilot on First Street that the program drove more customers and increased overall sales.”
