Hoboken School’s ‘Free Book Swap’ Inspires Love Of Reading
Students at a Hoboken elementary school can swap and switch out books for free from the 500-tome collection.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A free “book swap” at a Hoboken elementary school garnered more than 500 tomes for the benefit of its local students.
Connors Elementary School recently announced that it received more than 500 books for the launch of its free, student Book Swap program. With the help of the Connors community, the books were distributed to kindergarten to 6th-grade students to help “foster the love of reading,” school administrators said.
The program is being run by the Connors School 6th Grade leadership team. Teachers are providing opportunities for students to visit the Book Swap and take in books. Students also have the opportunity to visit the book swap during their recess.

“The idea came at a Connors Book Fair after a [1st grade] parent wanted to make sure all Connors students had the opportunity to take a book home,” Principal Tamika Pollins said. “So she spearheaded a drive to get books donated and it has been a great success.”
Pollins said that it was a pleasure to see the older students helping and guiding the younger ones, and seeing the enthusiasm and excitement on their faces when selecting “that perfect book.”
