Hoboken Schools Closed Tuesday, Will Have To Make Up Days

The Hoboken school district will need to make up days at the end of the year.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken's public schools will be closed on Tuesday due to the blizzard.

Superintendent Christine Johnson said that the second closure in a row is due to the timing of the storm and clearing of the roads.

Forecasters expect another 3-7 inches of snow in North Jersey Monday.

Johnson said that the district, which had another snow day due to an earlier storm, will have to make up two days at the end of the school year. A new calendar will be issued, she said.

Schools in New Jersey are required to be open for at least 180 days, and remote days don't count toward the total.

The city said Tuesday, "Blizzard conditions mean that tree branches are breaking under the heavy and wet snow. The Hoboken Fire Department and Office of Emergency Management are responding to downed branches and trees as they occur but please be careful if you are an essential worker and you must be outside, that you avoid walking under areas that may have heavy branches."

Call the Hoboken Police Department’s non-emergency line if you see branches down that are blocking the street at 201-420-2100.

The city of Hoboken has declared a state of emergency. Officials said people should move their cars from emergency routes.

Street cleaning is suspended for Monday and Tuesday.

The Hoboken public library was closed for Sunday and Monday.

Gov. Mikie Sherrill issued a State of Emergency starting at noon on Sunday.

Some colleges, including Hudson County Community College, announced remote classes for that day.

Forecasters say that coastal counties under a blizzard warning could see snow accumulations of 18-24 inches and wind gusts as high as 55 MPH.

The last time the Jersey Shore was under a blizzard warning was in 2022, when a nor'easter dumped 22 inches on parts of the state.
