Boy Scout Troop 146 of Hoboken takes pride in teaching first aid skills to scouts so they are prepared to help in an emergency. And on Tuesday night, our scouts did just that.
During a regular meeting at the Hoboken Multi-Service Center, an elderly woman stopped in and asked scouts to summon an ambulance. First Class scout Tige M. took charge of the situation, assigning assistant scoutmaster Francis Howitt to call 9-1-1 while Tige interviewed the lady for symptoms, medications, and history.

Then Tige went outside to Grand Street to meet the ambulance when it arrived, and to escort the EMT techs back to the Multi-Service Center. As they were walking, Tige passed on the information he had obtained. One tech said, "Thanks. You just did half our job for us."
“As part of the Boy Scouts of America program, our troop regularly teaches scouts what questions to ask and how to manage situations that require first aid,” explains Scoutmaster Norman Kasser. “Tige M. did an amazing job, and we are very proud to have one of our scouts demonstrate their skills in action.”
