Hoboken Students Celebrate Book Release With Public Reading

Free event on June 5 will feature readings from "Bleeding Truth: Stories From The Heart of Hoboken."

Hoboken High School junior English classes, in conjunction with Columbia University’s Student Press Initiative, will celebrate the book release of “Bleeding Truth: Stories From The Heart of Hoboken,” with a free, public reading at 9 a.m. on Friday, June 5, in the high school auditorium.

According to a release, the collection of memoirs was inspired by great American authors. Teachers worked with representatives from the Student Press Initiative to create a living portfolio system for each student. Students engaged in a series of seed pieces, received specific feedback and began the editing process. At the completion of the pre-writing process, students choose one piece to workshop into a published piece shared in the book.

“This year’s juniors have poured their hearts into their writing,” stated English teacher Patricia Hack, one of the junior English teachers involved in the project.
