Hoboken Teen And Girl Scout Starts Pet Pantry For Needy

The High Tech High School student, who lives in Hoboken, has won one of the highest honors a Girl Scout can achieve.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Earlier this year, Amanda Tennaro, 18, was awarded the Girl Scout Gold Award for her work establishing the pet food pantry to serve clients of the Hoboken Community Center.

These days, the pantry is still helping pets.

Many of the nearly 1,700 clients who utilize the human food pantry each month also have animals they love.

By providing free pet food and supplies to those that are food insecure themselves, pets can stay in homes and with their families, where they belong.

The Gold Award is the highest, most prestigious and challenging award for a Girl Scout to obtain.

According to the Girl Scouts website, "Gold Award Girl Scouts are rock stars, role models, and real-life heroes. How do they do it? By using everything they’ve learned as a Girl Scout to help fix a problem in their community or make a lasting change in their world."

The Hoboken Community Center Pantry is a community resource for supplemental food, hygiene and pet supplies in Hoboken, NJ as well as surrounding communities.

The Pantry is a part of the Hoboken Community Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides services and spaces to support the well-being of the Hoboken community.

The Pantry supports residents of the Hoboken Community Center Affordable Housing as well as community members experiencing food insecurity or other hardships. The Pantry is a member agency of the Community Food Bank of NJ.

Amanda is part of Girl Scouts Heart of NJ. Troop number 12038, service unit 10.
