Hoboken Traffic Stings Continue; Cops Ticketing Bicyclists

Hoboken police have been cracking down on stop sign violators, drivers who don't halt in crosswalks and other alleged traffic offenders.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Yup, they’re ticketing bicyclists too, Hoboken.

After the Hoboken Police Department’s recent launch of traffic safety efforts – including undercover busts at the city’s crosswalks and a stop-sign enforcement sting at a notorious “problem area” – authorities are continuing the crackdown.

And this includes bike riders, police reported.

On Wednesday, the HPD posted the following notice (story continues below photo):

“For the second evening in a row PO Armando Caraballo is out at Hudson Pl & Hudson St addressing illegally parked shuttle buses. One of the complaints sent to us at Traffic@hobokenpd.org. Keep the emails coming.”

The above enforcement operations come on the heels of similar operations in December. After launching their traffic safety campaign that month, Hoboken police officers resumed their plainclothes operation on the day after Christmas with a decoy operation at 400 Newark Street.

Started as a response to numerous "pedestrian safety complaints," that particular HPD traffic campaign uses officers dressed in civilian clothes who attempt to cross the street in marked crosswalks.

Earlier that month, police ran a stop sign-related sting on Newark Street. The results? 14 violations in two hours, police said.
