When Will Snow End In Hoboken, And What's The Expected Accumulation?

NJ Transit buses to New York City were suspended Saturday morning due to the snow. NY Waterway ferries are running.

HOBOKEN, NJ — When will the snow end? The revised forecast as of Saturday morning says the storm could dump a total of 3-7 more inches of snow on Hoboken through 1 p.m.

NJ Transit buses were suspended Saturday morning. But NY Waterway said it's running on a Saturday schedule.

Wind gusts will stay strong. The Saturday forecast says:

Saturday: Snow, mainly before 1 p.m. High near 25. Wind chill values between zero and
10. Windy, with a north wind 24 to 28 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.

Meanwhile, NJ Transit said, "NJ TRANSIT will temporarily suspend all bus, River LINE and Access Link services at the start of the service day on Saturday, Jan. 29. Service is anticipated to resume later in the day as soon as it is safe to do so. Train service, Newark Light Rail and Hudson-Bergen Light Rail on Saturday will remain on regular weekend schedules" with possible delays.

The areas "down the shore" have been under a blizzard warning.

"Residents are reminded not to park along emergency snow routes starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28," Mayor Ravi Bhalla said. The streets are listed below. The city is offering garage parking through Sunday at 5 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service forecast for Hoboken from Friday:

  • With the overnight snow and Saturday snow, a total of 5-11 inches may fall through 1 p.m.
  • Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 28.

The Office of Emergency Management encourages residents who do not need to travel to stay home and avoid driving. Residents who must travel are encouraged to take mass transit.T

Parking is Prohibited on Emergency Snow Routes

Residents are reminded not to park along emergency snow routes starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28. When streets are snow covered, no parking is permitted on these streets.

Vehicles parked on snow emergency routes are subject to towing. This is necessary to allow emergency vehicles to move throughout Hoboken for the safety and welfare of all residents.

Emergency snow routes in Hoboken are labeled with street signs that read "No Parking When Road Is Snow Covered." A map of emergency snow routes is available on the City website: www.hobokennj.gov/snow.

  • Washington Street (Both Sides)
  • Observer Highway – (Both Sides) Henderson St. to Hudson St.
  • Willow Avenue West Side – Observer Hwy. to 11th St.
  • 3rd Street – North Side – Jackson St. to River St.
  • 4th Street – South Side – River St. to Jackson St.
  • 5th Street- South Side – Clinton St. to River St.
  • 9th Street – North Side – Jackson St. to Castle Point Ter.
  • 13th Street – North Side – Washington St. to Madison St.
  • 13th Street – South Side – Washington St. to Hudson St.

All parking regulations, including alternate side parking, remain in effect.

Discounted Garage Parking Available

Due to the predicted storm, a special rate of $5 per 24-hour period is being offered at Garages B (28 2nd St.), Garages D (215 Hudson St.), andthe Midtown Garage (371 4th St.) for residents with Resident On-Street Parking Permits or Temporary Parking Permits. Discounted parking begins
tomorrow, Jan. 28, at 5 p.m. and ends Sunday, Jan. 30, at 5 p.m.

Garage space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Regular rates apply at other times.

Residents who have a parking permit decal or Temporary parking permit placard are reminded that overnight parking (8 p.m. to 8 a.m.) is available at a rate of $5 in Garages B, D and Midtown every day of the year.

Keep Sidewalks and Curb Ramps Clear

Property owners and occupants are reminded that they have six (6) hours after the completion of a storm to remove snow and ice from sidewalks adjacent to their property, along with adjoining curb ramps or curb cuts.

Residents are urged to assist elderly or disabled neighbors with clearing snow from their properties.

It is illegal to shovel snow back onto streets or onto fire hydrants.

Secure Loose Objects

Wind gusts of up to 40 MPH are predicted.

Residents should secure all loose objects outside or bring them inside, especially on balconies.

Outdoor tents should be taken down depending on the wind load.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages.
