Hudson Co. Man Charged With Decade-Old Sex Crimes Against Girls
The Union City man, 78, was charged with crimes that allegedly took place against girls as far back as 2002, 2003, and 2008.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Union City man has been arrsted on charges involving sexual crimes against three female juvenile victims between 2002 and 2017, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
Carlos Menjivar, 78, was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City without incident.
The prosecutor's office said that they were notified on Oct. 26 by the Union City Police Department about the alleged crimes.

Menjivar was arrested following an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office SVU and the Union City Police Department.
In connection with one of the three cases, Menjivar has been charged with aggravated sexual assault, a first-degree crime, and sexual assault by contact, a second degree crime.

Both of those charges involve incidents with a minor that allegedly occurred from 2006 to 2008. The victim was nine to 11 years old when they occurred.
An additional charge has been filed involving a second victim who was 9 years old when the alleged crimes occurred. Menjivar has been charged with aggravated sexual assault in that case, a first-degree crime. This charge involves multiple allegations that reportedly occurred from 2002 to 2003, the prosecutor's office said.
The victim would be approximately 27 years old now.
Additional charges have also been filed involving a third victim who was between 7 and 12 years old when the crimes occurred, the Prosecutor's Office said, between 2012 and 2017.
Menjivar has been charged with sexual assault by contact, a second-degree crime, and endangering the welfare of a child, a second-degree crime.
These charges involve multiple incidents that allegedly occurred between 2012 and 2017, the office said.
After his arrest, Menjivar was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance.
The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention of the defendant. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the Union City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
The above charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
