The Liberty Humane Society, a non-profit animal shelter in Hudson County that services Hoboken and Jersey City, will host the 14th annual “Bark in the Park” on Saturday, Oct. 14.

Bark in the Park is the biggest pet festival in Hudson County. Hundreds of participants, vendors, and sponsors will come together in Church Square Park in Hoboken to celebrate the work and animals of LHS and the communities served by the organization.

Since municipal funding only covers seven days of animal care, public support is essential to fulfilling the mission of LHS. All donations raised though Bark in the Park go directly towards providing medical care, spay/neuter, adoption and foster programs for local homeless animals.

The New Jersey Devils street team will be on-site with games, an inflatable slap-shot and free team giveaways. The event will also include a free bounce-house, face painting and a balloon artist. In addition, The Dogist will sign books and raffle dog portraits at Bark in the Park courtesy of Little City Books, and the event will include a pet costume contest.

Visitors will also be able to meet some of the adoptable animals of LHS. There will be an adoption trailer with cats, as well as dogs looking for new homes.

Attendees are invited to bring their dogs along. Additionally, there will demonstrations by the Jersey City Police K9 Unit, and dog trainer Laura Waddell of K9 Problem Solvers.

Those interested in helping LHS raise funds for Bark in the Park can register at the Bark in the Park website.

In addition, LHS will be holding an adoption promotion from Oct. 1 through the end of the festival. All dogs over 40 pounds will have adoption fees waived during the course of the promotion to qualified adopters.
