Jersey City Man Charged With Insurance Fraud Over Jeep Crash

The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office charged a Jersey City resident with insurance fraud related to a claim on a Jeep, they said.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office charged a Jersey City resident with insurance fraud last week after taking out insurance on a Jeep that had already been in a crash, then filing a new claim.

The Prosecutor's Office Insurance Fraud Unit arrested Issa Almaet, 41, of Jersey City "following an investigation that determined he submitted a fraudulent insurance claim for a vehicle involved in a motor vehicle collision," prosecutors said.

Almaet was charged with one count of insurance fraud, a third-degree crime. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Jersey City on Thursday, March 16 and released pending his first court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court on March 23, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said, "The investigation determined that Almaet filed a claim with GEICO falsely claiming that the damage sustained by a 2014 Jeep Cherokee occurred after an insurance policy was purchased but knowingly concealing that the damage occurred in a collision before the policy was purchased."

Prosecutor Esther Suarez credited members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit with the investigation and arrest.
