Hudson County Substitute Teacher Charged With Sex Crimes Against 2 Students: Prosecutor

A teacher has been charged with committing sex crimes at one public elementary school in Hudson County, the Prosecutor's Office said.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A substitute teacher who worked at one elementary school in Hudson County has been charged with sex crimes against two students at the school, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said this weekend.

Fayez Yassa, 64, was arrested late Thursday and charged with two counts of sexual assault by contact and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, prosecutors said.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Yassa at his home in Jersey City and took him to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, where he awaits his first court appearance, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said the crimes occurred at Public School 34 on Kennedy Boulevard — otherwise known as President Barack Obama Elementary School —on May 15, 2023. The school is a K-8 public school.

Yassa has been terminated from his substitute teaching position, officials said.

Prosecutors did not release the ages of the students.
