'I've Been Hit': Shocking Videos Show Shootout In North Jersey That Left Man Dead
After police in North Jersey responded to a domestic violence call in June, a man shot at them and was later killed, videos show.
HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The New Jersey Attorney General's Office released police bodycam footage on Tuesday of a confrontation in West New York in June in which a man shot at police and was later killed.
Officials said that the West New York police were responding to a domestic violence call in the Hudson County town on the evening of June 3.
In the bodycam and surveillance video, police are shown heading to the house on 59th Street. Someone says, "There's a kid in the apartment."

As police fire back, an officer says, "I got hit...got hit in the back." (He did not sustain life-threatening injuries, the Attorney General's Office said.)
Subsequent video shows a man emerging from the house, shirtless and wearing a bandana, with a gun in each hand. He runs up the sidewalk and hits the ground.
Police point their guns at him, including an officer who was shot at, and order him to stop several times.
At some point, the man — whom officials have identified as Kevin Colindres, 32 — is shot.
He was treated and taken to Palisades Medical Center in North Bergen, where he was pronounced dead, the Attorney General's Office said.
Officials said in a release that Colindres had emerged from a neighboring door 15 minutes after the initial shots were fired.
Surveillance video of Colindres emerging from a porch is here.
"The fatal shooting remains under investigation by the Office of Public Integrity and Accountability (OPIA)," said the Attorney General's Office. "The recordings are being released pursuant to policies established by the Attorney General’s Office in 2019 that are designed to promote the fair, impartial, and transparent investigation of fatal police encounters. Investigators met today with the family of Mr. Colindres to provide them an opportunity to review the videos before release."
"According to the preliminary investigation, uniformed officers of the West New York Police Department responded to a residence on 59th Street in West New York, N.J. at approximately 6:30 p.m. in response to a 911 call involving a domestic dispute," the Attorney General's Office said.
"During the initial encounter, Mr. Colindres fired a weapon at the officers while standing in the vestibule of the home. One officer discharged his weapon. One officer sustained a non-fatal injury during this initial encounter with Mr. Colindres. Officers took cover and maintained the scene."
"Approximately 15 minutes after the initial encounter Mr. Colindres emerged from a
neighboring door and ran down the sidewalk, visibly armed with two firearms. An officer discharged his firearm, fatally wounding Colindres. Officers and emergency medical personnel rendered first aid to Mr. Colindres. Two firearms were recovered near Colindres and one additional firearm was recovered on his person. Mr. Colindres was pronounced deceased at Hackensack Meridian Palisades Medical Center at 7:13 p.m."
No further information is being released, the office said.
This investigation is being conducted in accordance with a state law passed in January 2019, requiring that the Attorney General’s Office conduct all investigations of a person’s death during an encounter with a law enforcement officer.
The other recordings are posted online here.
