HOBOKEN, NJ — What do the zipper, stage monitors, Mallomars and steam-powered engines have in common? They all originated — or took a great leap forward — thanks to an inventor from the Mile Square City, according to the Hoboken Historical Museum.
The museum will host a special talk on Sunday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. by David Zimmerman, director of technology commercialization at Stevens Institute of Technology. Admission is $5 and is free for Hoboken Museum members. (Learn more here)

“Zimmerman has a long career in patents, intellectual property rights and in helping inventions find commercial success. In his role at Stevens, he is responsible for supporting research at Stevens Institute and building on a successful program of intellectual property development and commercialization… Hoboken’s own history springs from the vision of a very inventive family, as founder Col. John Stevens III and his sons were pioneers in rail and steam engine innovations. Founded by Col. Stevens’ son Edwin, the Stevens Institute of Technology has been a hotbed of innovation over its nearly 150-year history.”
