Man Arrested After Woman Assaulted In Hoboken Garage: Prosecutor

The woman told police she had been sexually assaulted in an elevator at Hoboken's Midtown parking garage on Monday at 3:15 a.m.

HOBOKEN — A man was arrested by county prosecutors on Wednesday after a woman said she was sexually assaulted Monday on the elevator in the Midtown Parking Garage on Fourth Street in Hoboken.

The office of County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said that shortly after 3:15 a.m., members of the Hoboken Police Department responded to the garage at Fourth and Clinton streets on reports of a possible robbery and a female in distress.

A 23-year-old Hoboken resident told police that she was sexually assaulted while on the elevator.

On Wednesday at 8:15 a.m., the police arrested Jeremy Torres Gonzalez, 26, on Third Street because he allegedly had open warrants on other matters. That evening, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit charged him with the sexual assault.

Gonzalez has been charged with two counts of aggravated sexual assault, sexual assault, two weapons possession charges (knife/box cutter), and theft by unlawful taking.

These charges are allegations and have not been proven in a court of law.

Gonzalez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending
his first appearance. The Prosecutor’s Office has filed a motion for pretrial detention. A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit and the
Hoboken Police Department for the investigation and arrests.
