Man Charged With Sexually Assaulting Hudson County Girl, 14: Officials

A 31-year-old man was charged with sexual assault in connection with the 2021 assault of a girl, 14, in Hudson County, prosecutors said.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A 31-year-old Kearny man was arrested in Puerto Rico on Wednesday and charged with sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a minor in connection with the assault of a 14-year-old Kearny girl in 2021, prosecutors said.

Prosecutors said that Jose Alfredo Garcia was arrested Wednesday at approximately 7:50 p.m. in San German, Puerto Rico by members of the United States Marshals Service-District of Puerto Rico Violent Fugitive Task Force, in conjunction with U.S. marshals in New York/New Jersey.

Garcia was sought for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old female victim in Kearny on Dec. 20, 2021, prosecutors said.

Following an investigation, he was charged with two counts of sexual assault, a count of luring/enticing a child, a count of endangering the welfare of a child, and a count of criminal sexual contact.

Garcia is being detained at the Metropolitan Jail #705 in Bayamon, Puerto Rico as a fugitive from justice pending extradition to New Jersey, prosecutors said.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit, the
Kearny Police Department, the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force, the United States Marshals Service of Puerto Rico Violent Fugitive Task Force, and the Puerto Rico Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
