Man Dies In New Year's Day Fire In Hudson County Apartment
The Hudson County Arson Task Force is investigating a fatal fire in Weehawken on New Year's Day.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A 69-year-old man was killed on the morning of New Year's Day in an apartment fire in Weehawken, the Hudson County Prosecutor's office said Monday.
Prosecutors said that on Sunday, Jan. 1, at 10:30 a.m., North Hudson Regional Fire and Rescue
responded to a report of a fire at 708 John F. Kennedy Boulevard East.

The NHRFR brought the fire under control at approximately 11:05 a.m. The fire was contained to a single unit on the first floor of the building, the prosecutors said.
Firefighters found the 69-year-old man with "apparent injuries caused by the fire," prosecutors said. He was taken to Palisade Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:30 a.m.

The identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.
An initial investigation by the Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force determined that the fire does not appear suspicious, prosecutors said, "However, the origin and cause of the fire remain under investigation."
