Man Jumps From GWB: 16th Suicide At The Bridge In 2015, Authorities Say

A Kearny man jumped from the George Washington Bridge on Thursday evening.

Authorities reported that a Kearny man committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge on Thursday evening.

The death is the 16th suicide this year at the bridge, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

According to a Port Authority spokesman, police received a call about a man travelling eastbound on the bridge around 5:27 p.m.

The man – later identified as Eric Duenas, 39 – reportedly exited his 2008 Saturn near the south walk of the New Jersey tower, then jumped over the railing, authorities stated.

Port Authority harbor units recovered Duenas’ body around 5:50 p.m. north of the bridge.

He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards at St. Luke’s Hospital, authorities stated.
