Man Seen Riding On Car Roof In Bizarre Hoboken DWI Stop: Cops
Hoboken Police: The booze-infused journey ended with a little-seen charge: "Riding on parts not intended for passengers."

HOBOKEN, NJ — The official criminal justice term for the bizarre, booze-infused feat that took place on the streets of Hoboken on Saturday morning is “riding on parts not intended for passengers.” And it’s one of multiple charges that a New Jersey resident was hit with after Hoboken police officers allegedly spotted a BMW blasting down Washington Street with a passenger sitting on top of the vehicle’s roof, authorities said.
The traffic stop began when two Hoboken officers on patrol spotted a 2007 BMW traveling “at a high rate of speed” with a passenger on its roof at 3:48 a.m. The officers stopped the vehicle on the 100-block of Washington Street. When one of the officers approached the BMW and the driver handed him several documents, he allegedly smelled the “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage” wafting from the car, authorities said.
The driver, Khaled Makhlouf, 37, of Dumont, had “slurred speech and droopy eyes.” He was unable to complete a field sobriety test, police said.
