Man Shot To Death In Jersey City Heights: Prosecutors

A man was shot to death in Jersey City Heights Sunday night, said the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office. No arrests have been made.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A man was shot to death in Jersey City Heights on Sunday night, the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said. No arrests had been made as of Monday morning.

Prosecutors said that at approximately 9:35 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department received a report of shots fired in the area of Summit Avenue and Poplar Street in Jersey City.

They found Rafael Gomez, 25, of Jersey City near 1143 Summit Ave. with an apparent gunshot wound or wounds to the torso.

He was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at approximately 11:09 p.m.


The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are
investigating, they said.

There were 13 homicides in Jersey City last year and 23 the year before.
