Medical Marijuana Dispensary Proposed In Hoboken: Report

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A Secaucus medical marijuana dispensary wants to bring a second location to Hoboken, a report says.

Earlier this month, Harmony Foundation submitted an application to the city’s planning board to build out space at 95 Hudson Street into a “state-approved medical cannabis dispensary.” It would be their second alternative treatment center in the state, Jersey Digs reported.

The retail dispensary area would occupy 1,168 square feet in the middle of the building, while the rear of the property would consist of a 1,124-square-foot “lounge” dedicated to on-site consumption, Jersey Digs reported. (Read the full article)

In June 2018, Harmony Foundation opened New Jersey’s sixth medical marijuana dispensary inside an office complex at 600 Meadowlands Parkway in Secaucus.

The Hoboken City Council recently tabled an ordinance that would have permitted recreational marijuana in the city. Instead, the council re-centered the conversation on medicinal marijuana, and voted in favor of a new law to permit medicinal dispensaries.

Currently, the state’s only medical marijuana facilities are located in Secaucus, Montclair, Egg Harbor, Woodbridge, Cranbury and Bellmawr. However, after Gov. Phil Murphy paved the way for expanded access to medical marijuana in New Jersey, a rush of interested parties have been requesting permits from the state to open new dispensaries.

Advocates and officials say more dispensaries will help New Jersey’s medical marijuana patients deal with chronic shortages of medicine and prices that often top those on the black market.
