Mother of Matthew Shepard to Speak at Hoboken Restaurant

Civil rights activist will host evening of cocktails and conversation.

On Tuesday, April 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Amanda’s Restaurant, 908 Washington St., will host civil rights activist Judy Shepard of the Matthew Shepard Foundation for an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and conversation to benefit the foundation’s outreach, resource and advocacy programs.

Judy’s son Matthew was murdered in an anti-gay hate crime in Wyoming in 1998, and the organization she and her family founded in his honor works to prevent similar crimes, bullying, discrimination and other forms of inequality. In the past 17 years, the foundation has worked to promote equality through speaking engagements, media appearances, classroom sessions, diplomatic missions and direct outreach to lawmakers, educators and LGBT-supportive allies, according to a release.

Tickets can be purchased by visiting the foundation website, or by calling 303-830-7400, ext. 16.
