Mother’s Day Comes A Little Early In Hudson County

The Girl Scout Troop 12001 of Hoboken hosted a Mother's Day event at the York Street Project in Jersey City.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Mother’s Day 2017 came a little bit early for moms and kids at the York Street Project when Girl Scout Troop 12001 of Hoboken hosted a Mother's Day event at their Jersey City facility last week.

On Tuesday, the troop threw the mothers at the facility a party and worked with young children to help make a Mother's Day gift. Each parent was given a Mother's Day gift bag filled with donated items such as watches, a nail kit, jewelry and makeup.

“Girl Scout Troop 12001 has been working with The York Street Project in Jersey City for over a year now as part of their journey to earn their Bronze Award. The girls have been raising awareness for the center for homeless and economically disadvantaged women and children. York Street Project provides them with food, shelter, education, child care, counseling, and advocacy.”

Some of the things the girls have been doing to raise awareness have been collecting food and snacks for the center, collecting hats, mittens, and coats and handing out fliers at street fairs, the troop stated.
