NJ Corrections Officer Beaten By Inmate Who Freed Others: Report
An inmate at a NJ jail allegedly beat a corrections officer unconscious, took his keys and freed other inmates, according to a report.
HUDSON COUNTY - An inmate at Hudson County jail allegedly beat a corrections officer unconscious, took his keys and freed other inmates, according to an NJ.com report.
As a result, Kelvin Jamison, 22, faces attempted murder and aggrivated assault on a law enforcement officer charges for the July 16 incident, according to a criminal complaint obtained by NJ.com. Jamison was jailed awaiting trial for a domestic violence arrest and weapons offenses, the publication wrote.
The attempted prison break occurred around 9:36 p.m. when, as the corrections officer escorted a nurse during medication rounds, the officer was punched by Jamison. The inmate then grabbed the officer’s keys and radio and opened nine cell doors, NJ.com wrote.

Several inmates left their cells for the jail’s day room, the publication added, as Jamison repeatedly kicked and beat the officer unconscious. The officer reportedly suffered a concussion, ear laceration and facial contusions, and is currently recovering at Jersey City Medical Center.
The 22-year-old inmate was arrested on charges that he and an accomplice beat and robbed an 87-year-old grandmother who was walking home from church, NJ.com reported. He was arrested in February in a domestic violence incident.
