HUDSON COUNTY, NJ -- The smoke and odor from a raging wildfire in South Jersey reached all the way up to Hudson County, prompting alerts from multiple local public safety agencies.

A 8,000-acre forest fire that originated in Burlington County continued to rage in New Jersey on Sunday. The state Department of Environmental Protection said the fire was 50 percent contained as of 10 a.m.

The fire consumed about 5,000 acres of the Penn State Forest in Burlington County, officials said.

Residents across Hudson County reported smelling smoke, including in the Mile Square City, according to the Hoboken Fire Department.

"If you’re concerned with the odor of smoke, it’s always best to call us at 201-420-2004 or 911," the HFD stated Sunday morning.

According to the Bayonne OEM:

"There is a large brush fire burning in Burlington County, NJ. The smoke has made it thus far north, and may affect the air quality. If you are affected, please limit your time outdoors."
