No Weed At Hoboken ‘Coffee With A Cop’ On 4/20: Police Chief

Hoboken's police chief had a good sense of humor when someone pointed out the Coffee With A Cop event takes place on "National Weed Day."

HOBOKEN, NJ — There won’t be any weed at the Hoboken Police Department’s “Coffee With A Cop” event on 4/20. But marijuana legalization is definitely one of the topics that local residents can feel free to discuss with officers, the city’s police chief says.

Earlier this week, Hoboken Police Chief Ken Ferrante posted a Twitter message about the April 20 event, which aims to bring local cops and community members together in a non-confrontational setting over a cup of coffee.

It wasn’t long before a social media user pointed out that April 20 (colloquially known as “4/20”), is an infamous “holiday” that many marijuana users refer to as National Weed Day, Ferrante reported.

“I wish I was funny,” the internet pundit wrote. “I'd make a joke about 4/20, wake and bake, sting op… something along those lines.”

The social media pundit added that the Coffee With A Cop event is “great” and that they fully support it.

Here’s Ferrante’s tongue-in-cheek reply:

“Noticed one of the comments that it was brought to my attention that April 20th, 4/20, is National Weed Day. While there won't be marijuana at this Coffee With A Cop as it is still illegal in NJ, marijuana legalization is definitely one of the topics we can discuss. Over COFFEE!”

The Hoboken Police Department’s free, public Coffee With A Cop event will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Friday, April 20 at O'Nieal's on 4th and Park Ave.
