One Asian Restaurant Is Closing And One's About To Open In Hoboken
A longtime restaurant on lower Washington is closing, but "something cool" will open soon at the site of a former Asian eatery uptown.
HOBOKEN, NJ — A popular longtime Malaysian restaurant at the base of Hoboken's Washington Street is set to close, but a different Asian eatery is set to open soon upon on the same main drag.
Signs outside Satay at 99 Washington St. this week say that the Malaysian favorite will close Dec. 24.
"With a heavy heart, we are writing to inform you that Satay will be closing its doors...we believe that food brings people together and want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your continuous support and understanding. We have been honored to be part of the Hoboken community for over the past 20+ years," says the sign.

However, another Asian restaurant is coming to upper Washington Street, on the site of one that recently closed.
Lemongrass, a Vietnamese eatery at 732 Washington Street, closed last month, only a few months after opening. (READ MORE: 10 New Restaurants That Opened In Hoboken And Jersey City In Summer 2023)

But signage in the window says "Something cool coming soon."
And according to an inspection certificate from the Board of Health from late October, what's coming is Pho Express.
A man working on the restaurant this week said that it will actually open in just a matter of days, after employee training.
