Orthopaedic Physician Frank Liporace, MD, Joins Barnabas Health Medical Group

Barnabas Health Medical Group (BHMG) has announced the addition of Frank Liporace, MD, a board-certified orthopaedic physician, to its network of primary and specialty care physicians. He is affiliated with Jersey City Medical Center, an RWJBarnabas Health facility.

“My goal, now that I’m with Barnabas Health Medical Group, is to keep delivering quality care to a large number of patients in New Jersey, as well as bringing leadership to the faculty practice department we’re creating,” said Dr. Liporace.

In addition to pioneering the new faculty practice, Dr. Liporace serves as the chief of Orthopaedic Trauma and Adult Reconstruction, and is the Chair of Orthopaedics at Jersey City Medical Center. Dr. Liporace says he has always loved treating patients with orthopaedic injuries.

“Orthopaedics is the most impactful specialty in all of medicine. It restores the patient’s lifestyle that has been lost due to illness or injury. Through my work, I hope to give patients a level of function as good as – or better than – their pre-injury or arthritic state,” said Dr. Liporace. “I also take great pride in helping patients that need further treatment beyond what they may have received elsewhere.”

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York at Binghamton, Dr. Liporace earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla. He completed his internship and residency in orthopaedic surgery at New York University/Hospital for Joint Diseases in New York City and completed an Orthopaedic Trauma and Adult Reconstructive Surgery fellowship at Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Tampa. Dr. Liporace is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Orthopaedic Trauma Association, where he has served as Director of the Fellowship Committee since 2011. He has served in academic medicine throughout his career and has won “teacher of the year” multiple times at three academic centers.

Dr. Liporace has trained hundreds of surgeons, authored more than 90 peer-reviewed publications, has been published in at least 15 orthopaedic text books and is chief editor of two orthopaedic textbooks in production. Dr. Liporace has given more than 400 invited lectures on orthopaedic adult reconstruction and trauma, both nationally and internationally. Dr. Liporace is a designer of orthopaedic surgical equipment used worldwide.
