Jill Littzi: Teacher of the Year for 2014-2015.

Hoboken Public Schools has named its teachers of the year and educational services professionals of the year.

This year, the New Jersey Department of Education has combined the Teacher of the Year program with Governor’s Teacher/Educational Services Professional Recognition Program. Schools selected one teacher and one educational services professional to be recognized at the school level. The teacher awardees can then nominate themselves for the County Teacher of the Year program.

Jill Littzi: Salvatore R. Calabro Elementary School

Jill Littzi has worked in the Hoboken Public Schools for twelve years.

She is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, and moved to Hoboken after accepting a job with the district. She is currently teaching kindergarten at Calabro Elementary School. She received her bachelor’s degree from East Stroudsburg University. She continued her education by receiving a master’s degree in reading from King’s College.

Littzi always knew she wanted to be an elementary school teacher. She worked as a staff member and supervisor in daycare centers teaching three and four year olds. She substituted in the Harrisburg School District for a couple of years before getting her own teaching position in Hoboken.

Littzi has been involved in many programs throughout the last twelve years, including NJ Ask Tutoring, Wallace’s summer programs, curriculum writing and the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. She was also a mentor and cooperating teacher and is currently Calabro School’s affirmitive action officer.
