Police Seek 'Persons Of Interest' In Carjacking Attempt Near Hoboken Train Station

A man who saw a stranger enter his car near the Hoboken Train Terminal fought him off. Now police are looking for "persons of interest."

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police are looking for two "persons of interest" in connection with an apparent carjacking attempt on March 27, they said Tuesday.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:20 p.m., on the 100 block of River Street, which is steps from the Hoboken train terminal area.

Police said that an "unknown individual" entered a running and unlocked black 2020 Range Rover.

When the owner of the vehicle noticed a stranger in the driver's seat, "he jumped into the passenger seat and got into a physical altercation with the actor during which he was able to shut off the car," police said. "The actor struck the victim in the face before exiting the vehicle. He was seen fleeing on foot with another individual."

The victim was treated for minor injuries on the scene by Hoboken EMS and refused further medical attention.

Further investigation by Detectives John Quinones, Christine Collins, Michael Losurdo, Andrew Perez, Vito Gigante, and Police Officer Ramon Estrella identified two "persons of interest who are believed to have left Hoboken that afternoon via PATH train," police said.

At Least Five Carjackings Or Attempts

This is the fifth carjacking or carjacking attempt of which the public was made aware in Hoboken so far this year.
